Lebanese Stuffed Grape Leaves (Waraq Dawali) — a healthy halal vegetarian recipe with 280 calories and 5g protein per serving.
Ingredients
- 1 jar (16 oz) grape leaves, rinsed
- 1.5 cups short-grain rice, rinsed
- 1 large onion finely chopped, 2 tomatoes chopped
- 1/2 cup fresh parsley and mint, chopped
- 1 tsp allspice, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, salt, black pepper
- 1/3 cup olive oil, juice of 2 lemons
Instructions
- 1Mix rice with onion, tomatoes, herbs, spices and half the olive oil for filling.
- 2Place a spoonful of filling on each leaf (vein side up), fold sides and roll tightly.
- 3Arrange rolls tightly in a pot. Add remaining oil, lemon juice and enough water to cover.
- 4Place a plate on top and simmer on low for 45-50 min until rice is cooked. Cool slightly before serving.
