Indian Style Dhokla - Steamed Chickpea Flour Snack — a healthy halal vegetarian recipe with 160 calories and 7g protein per serving.
Ingredients
- 1 cup chickpea flour (besan)
- 1/2 cup yogurt (or water for vegan)
- 1 tsp ginger-green chili paste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1 tsp sugar, salt to taste, 1 tsp fruit salt (Eno)
- For tempering: 2 tbsp oil, 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp sesame seeds, 8-10 curry leaves, 2 green chilies slit, pinch asafoetida
- Fresh cilantro and grated coconut for garnish
Instructions
- 1Mix besan, yogurt, ginger-chili paste, turmeric, sugar and salt into a smooth batter. Let rest 10 min.
- 2Grease a steaming plate. Add Eno to batter, mix quickly and pour into plate. Steam 15-20 min until a toothpick comes out clean.
- 3Cool slightly and cut into squares.
- 4Heat oil for tempering: add mustard, sesame, curry leaves, chilies and hing. Pour over dhokla. Garnish with cilantro and coconut.
