Ingredients
  • 1 cup whole black urad dal (soaked 30 min)
  • 1 onion, 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp turmeric, 1 tsp garam masala, chili powder
  • 4–5 cups water
  • 2 tbsp ghee or oil, fresh cilantro, cream (optional)
Instructions
  1. 1Pressure cook or simmer soaked dal until very soft (40+ min).
  2. 2In separate pan, make tadka: heat ghee, add cumin, onion, ginger-garlic, tomatoes, and spices.
  3. 3Mix tadka into cooked dal. Simmer 10 min. Mash slightly for creaminess.
  4. 4Garnish with cilantro. Serve as soup or with rice.
