Black Lentil Usal (Indian Spiced) — a healthy vegetarian halal recipe with 260 calories and 15g protein per serving.
Ingredients
- 1 cup black lentils (urad dal), soaked 2 hours or pre-cooked
- 1 onion, 2 tomatoes, 1-2 green chilies
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp mustard seeds, cumin seeds, turmeric, garam masala, goda masala (or extra garam masala)
- Fresh coconut (grated) or coconut milk, cilantro
Instructions
- 1Pressure cook or simmer soaked lentils until tender.
- 2Temper mustard and cumin seeds in oil, add onion, ginger-garlic, chilies, and tomatoes. Cook until soft.
- 3Add spices, cooked lentils, and a little water. Simmer 5-10 minutes. Finish with grated coconut and cilantro. Serve with rice or bread.
